Goodbye Gym…Hello Salsa!

Today everyone is looking for the best way to stay healthy and in shape. There are constant debates between gym lovers and Pilates fanatics, yogis and rock climbers…the list goes on!  I believe that any physical activity is better than none, but today I am hear to give you 4 Reasons why Salsa is a better option than the gym. 

4. Improve Brain Function and Increases Happiness

Studies have shown that dancing can improve brain function. An excerpt from a post on Psychology Today states that, “Through regular aerobic training that incorporates some type of dance at least once a week anyone can maximize his or her brain function.” Another benefit is that while moving our brain releases serotonin and dopamine which gives you a calm happy feeling. Exercising at the gym will create the same feeling, but imagine how much better it feels when you’re jammin’ to a sexy Salsa song!

3. Learn a new Skill (while looking sexy ) 

After your first month of Salsa classes with the Fawakaa Dance Company you will be ready to go out to Salsa clubs and social dance. You will have learned a new skill that can be put into practice and make you feel the money was worth it. You will be transformed as you step on the dance floor showing off your new moves. This feeling of satisfaction is one that will not be obtained from running on the treadmill 2-3 times a week at your local gym. Oh and not to mention you will look damn sexy as you learn to dance, although it may take some time to get the full effect.

In the Salsa classes we teach at Fawakaa Dance Company we rotate partners. This means that you are never dancing with one person for the whole class. We do things this way so that you can practice with everyone and actually get to know your classmates. After a couple of weeks of classes you will have made new friends to go out social dancing with! You can make friends in a gym, but the environment does not lend it self to meeting new people as much as a Salsa class does.

1. Save Money

The cost of one month of Salsa classes with the Fawakaa Dance Company is $160. For a limited time, If you pay for a full month in advance we give you a $30 discount, so you’re looking at $130 for the month. This is for 8 classes, each 1.5 hours which is a total of 12 hours per month. The average gym membership is $58 a month, the average person goes 2  times a week, and the average person wastes about $39 per membership. This monthly membership does not include classes such as aerobics, yoga, or Zumba.

These statistics reveal that although you pay more money up front for Salsa classes you are also getting more. It appears that gym memberships tend to go to waste because there is no accountability in place and no incentive pushing people to go back.

When taking Salsa classes you are motivated to return because you want to learn how to dance so that you can go out and practice your moves. Your teacher and your classmates function as your accountability buddies.
